Author : Dr. Ranjana Prasad
Abstract
This qualitative research examines the popularity, benefits, and effectiveness of swimming and gym workouts by analyzing participant experiences, expert perspectives, and existing literature. Swimming is widely regarded for its therapeutic and low-impact nature, making it a preferred choice for individuals seeking joint-friendly, full-body exercise. Conversely, gym workouts offer structured weight training and high-intensity regimens, attracting those focused-on muscle development and cardiovascular fitness. Through in-depth interviews and thematic analysis, this study examines motivations, challenges, and perceived long-term health benefits associated with each form of exercise. Findings suggest that swimming is favoured for its holistic physical and mental benefits, while gyms provide a controlled environment for targeted strength training. Accessibility, personal fitness goals, and social influences emerge as key factors shaping individual preferences. This research highlights the need for tailored fitness approaches that align with diverse physical capabilities and lifestyle choices.
