Abstract
Rural farm women constitute the backbone of India’s agricultural economy, yet their contributions remain underrecognized in formal economic structures. As India advances toward the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047, agricultural transformation from subsistence-based production to sustainable, income-oriented systems has become central to development policy. This research paper examines the evolving role of rural farm women in driving income growth, agricultural diversification, and ecological sustainability. Drawing upon documented case studies from SEWA, Kudumbashree, Mahila Kisan Sashaktikaran Pariyojana (MKSP), Deccan Development Society (DDS), and Shree Mahila Griha Udyog Lijjat Papad, the study evaluates institutional mechanisms that facilitate women’s transition into sustainable agripreneurs. The paper further analyzes structural barriers including land inequality, financial exclusion, and technological gaps. Findings suggest that empowering rural women enhances productivity, strengthens climate resilience, and accelerates inclusive growth. Achieving Viksit Bharat requires embedding gender-responsive agricultural reforms at the core of rural transformation.
