Abstract

The vision of Viksit Bharat @2047 envisages India’s transformation into a developed nation that is not only economically strong but also ethically grounded and socially inclusive. In the Indian context, development has historically been understood as a holistic process integrating moral values, social responsibility, and harmony with nature. Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS), representing India’s indigenous intellectual traditions, offer a comprehensive ethical and inclusive framework for contemporary nation-building. Rooted in concepts such as dharma (duty), sarvodaya (welfare of all), and vasudhaiva kutumbakam (the world as one family), IKS emphasizes moral governance, value-based education, social equity, and sustainable living. This paper critically examines the role of Indian Knowledge Systems in shaping an ethical and inclusive model of development for Viksit Bharat @2047. It explores the relevance of IKS in governance, education, social inclusion, environmental ethics, and healthcare, while also addressing the challenges involved in integrating traditional knowledge with modern institutional structures. The study argues that the meaningful incorporation of IKS into policy-making, education, and governance is essential for achieving balanced, inclusive, and value-oriented national development.
