Abstract

Water scarcity is no longer a localized issue, it is a global crisis fueled by rapid urbanization, erratic climate pattern and over exploitation of aquifers. Water is the largest source of sustainability of human being and live things and the major water abstraction and diversion is catering to the requirement of human being and live things. Water is the lifeblood of ecosystem. It is life sustaining resource of human being and several creatures but the unsustainable use of water resource by the population creates the crisis for surface water bodies, ground water reserve and the other potential water sources. This paper explores the critical role of Rain Water Harvesting. It is a primary vehicle to achieving resource sustainability in this period of increasing water scarcity. Water resource sustainability requires a Shift from “extraction –based” model to “conservation – based“ model. This paper presented for achieving resource sustainability by analyzing various harvesting techniques. This paper evaluates the environmental, social and economic impact of localized water management.
