Author : Dr. Arvind Kumar Gupta

Abstract

Generation Z (Gen Z), broadly defined as individuals born between 1997 and 2012, represents one of the largest youth cohorts in India and constitutes a significant force shaping the nation’s social, economic, and cultural transformation. This paper sociologically examines the role of Gen Z students in India’s development, focusing on education, digital transformation, employment aspirations, social change, and nation-building. Using secondary data, sociological theories, and demographic insights, the study highlights how Gen Z contributes to innovation, entrepreneurship, cultural shifts, and economic growth while also facing challenges such as unemployment, inequality, and psychological stress. The study concludes that India’s demographic dividend depends largely on how effectively Gen Z is integrated into education, employment, and social institutions.
