Abstract
India’s participation in the BRICS grouping represents a strategic effort to strengthen South–South cooperation and enhance its global economic standing. This research paper examines India’s economic relations with selected BRICS nations by focusing on key variables such as bilateral trade with South Africa and Brazil, strategic cooperation within the BRICS framework, structural challenges affecting economic engagement, and future opportunities aligned with India’s vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047. The research follows a descriptive and analytical methodology based on secondary data sourced from government reports, trade statistics, and academic literature. The findings indicate that India’s trade relations with South Africa and Brazil are largely complementary and offer significant scope for diversification and value addition. Strategic cooperation within BRICS enhances India’s global economic influence, while structural challenges such as logistical constraints and limited export diversification continue to restrict trade potential. The study concludes that addressing these challenges and strengthening focused cooperation within BRICS can play an important role in supporting India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation by 2047.
