Abstract

The vision of Viksit Bharat @2047 symbolizes India’s aspiration to transform into a developed, inclusive, and knowledge-driven nation by the centenary of its independence. Central to this vision is the creation of a strong knowledge infrastructure that supports education, innovation, social equity, and sustainable development. Libraries, as long-established knowledge institutions, play a vital role in achieving these objectives. In the contemporary digital era, libraries have evolved beyond their traditional functions to become dynamic centers for learning, digital empowerment, research support, and community engagement. This paper examines the role of libraries within the holistic framework of Viksit Bharat @2047, emphasizing their contribution to knowledge dissemination, equitable access to information, and sustainable socio-economic growth. The study adopts a descriptive and analytical approach based on secondary sources to explore the changing landscape of libraries in India. It also highlights the challenges faced by libraries and proposes strategic measures to enhance their effectiveness in nation-building. The paper concludes that strengthening library systems is essential for realizing the goals of Viksit Bharat @2047 and fostering an informed, empowered, and inclusive society.
