Abstract

This present research paper examines the social phobia among senior secondary students in relation to academic stress and emotional stability. Survey method was adopted for the collection of necessary data. The sample comprised 200 senior secondary students of schools of Chandigarh. Social Phobia Scale by Dr. D.S. Sisodia and Mr. D. Sharma (2012), Academic Stress Scale by Ghoshal & Banerjee (2005) and Emotional stability questionnaire by S. Vohra (1995) were used as tools for the study. Statistical techniques like Mean, standard deviation, t test and product Moment coefficient of correlation were employed to analyse the obtained data. The results indicate that the educational setting whether government or private does not play a major role in shaping students' experiences of social phobia. Further the results suggest that the type of school (government or private) does not have a significant influence on the academic stress levels of senior secondary students. In addition, the results also suggest that emotional stability among students is not significantly influenced by the type of school they attend. The study also reported a significant negative correlation between social phobia, academic stress and emotional stability among senior secondary students. This research has a great impact on parents, teachers and policy makers.
